Today in class we took a test on Rome. I did well and got a 93% and we got to get my project. I got a 92% and I was happy.

Today during class we got to have two more projects. The first was Chesca, Jessica ,and Alyssa did their project on poetry. They showed the class a pot they made form clay and some history. The second was mine about gladiators and the third was a board game about Rome.

Today during class we got to see three more projects. The first project was Jayla's which was about pottery of the Romans and their styles. The second project was Authors about architecture. They used legos to make a building from Rome. They last project was about to Roman people's diaries that Caitlin and Trish wrote.

Today during class there were 3 presentation on Rome. There was one on food which tasted good with cookies and pasta. The second project was on a song that was funny. The third group did there project on the Coliseum.

Today during class Mr.Schick told us about a very famous blues musicians.  BB King died yesterday at the age of 89. Mr. Schick let us hear Blues the whole class and we got to use the rest of the class on our projects.

Poor Plebs 

  • Plebs are kept happy (not to revolt)
  • the poet Juvenal said the people anxiously hoped for two things ;bread and circuses
  • bread(free grub from the state) and entertainment( Circus Maximus,Colosseum)partly to keep them alive partly to keep them quiet 
  • A change in Rule
  • Tiberius Grachus recognized the advantages  of courting the plebeians (even though he was unsuccessful)
  • military generals worked that angle lead an army that conquers a land , then give then a share in the spoils 
  • soldiers' loyalty was to their military leader, not necessarily to Rome or the Republic

Today during class we took a ten question quiz. I got an 80 and our class average was around a 74%. Some of the questions were who were the common people answer being plebeians  What is the executive branch of the USA the president.

  • Today during class during class we watched a movie in class about Tiberius; a Romain general kick out of his position. He try to fight for peoples rights and get their land back"Grab some land".He serves a 1 yr term and try to get re elected. The council gets together and beats him to death with chairs.

Today during class I wet to the room for western civi and there was no one there. I looked around the school and ended up going to the office to find the class we were in. I was told to work on my project which is coming along nicely about gladiators.

The Punic Wars

  • Rome vs Cathage

  • First Punic War (264-241 BCE)
  • navel battles for control of the strategically located island of Sicily
  • Rome wins this war
second punic war (218-201 BCE)
  • 29 year old Carthaginian general Hannibal almost does the impossible taking Rome
  • attacks Rome from the North after crossing Iberia (Spain) and the alps 
  • lays siege to much of the peninsula for 15 years, but he never can get to Rome
Third war (149-146 BCE)
  • Rome wanted to finally remove the threat of Carthage
  • Scipio, Tiberius Gracchus,and others mercilessly attacked the city 
  • Carthage was burned for 17 days the city's walls and buildings were utterly destroyed 
  • when the war ended, the last 50,000 people in the city were sold  into slavery
  • the rest of Carthage's territories were annexed, and made into the Roman province of Africa

  • plebs were threatened with debt slavery

  • plebs were victims of discriminatory decisions in judicial trials


  • Rome had no actual laws just urbane customs
  • patricians could interpret these to their own advantage
  • laws  were written out (the law of the twelve tables)
  • these laws(on tablets) were posted in public (in 450 BCE)
